Meet Travis Bartlett

With more than 30 years of experience in dry cleaning and garment care, owner Travis Bartlett has what it takes to produce only the finest work.

Born in Aroostook County, he has owned Oak Hill Dry Cleaner since 2008 and has taken it in an entirely different direction than other cleaners in the country.

His shop uses the ONLY USDA-APPROVED eco-friendly cleaning agents. He handles every single item that enters the shop and has mastered modern as well as “old world” techniques that ensure every garment or household item remains in top condition.

Clients have trusted him for years with couture garments, family heirlooms, and their everyday wear.

Trained by the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute, he also has the highest rating with the Better Business Bureau and is a Certified Green Business Bureau member. In 2020 he partnered with Maine Needs and has provided many hours of pro-bono work; resulting in thousands of garments and blankets reaching those in need throughout the state.

Oak Hill Dry Cleaners was a Silver Award winner for the very first “Best of the 207” contest in 2022, and this has made Travis commit to taking the Gold in the coming years!

Living and working in Scarborough alongside his wife, Toby, he has repeatedly emphasized that his goal is to maintain a warm, “Mom and Pop” shop atmosphere where every customer is known by name, where free soft drinks and water are always offered in the cooler at the counter, and where clients are encouraged to bring in their dogs for a quick visit!

The Oak Hill Dry Cleaners’ Green Commitment

At Oak Hill Dry Cleaners, we are determined to do our part for our community and the environment. We care about the health of our customers and employees. We’ve made it a point to use eco-friendly cleaning fluids that are both non-toxic and safer for clients and the environment.

In addition, we have always offered eco-friendly wet cleaning that relies on our highly-efficient machines to limit water and detergent use and minimize waste; all to protect the environment.

We've also made great strides in the cutting down the size of our carbon footprint by limiting our energy use, which supports the planet and reduces our operating costs. We have done this with:

  • Lighting. We continually upgrade our lighting systems to the most energy efficient sources available, which include high efficiency fluorescent and LED lighting wherever possible.

  • Premium cleaning technologies. Our eco-friendly detergents and cleaning solvents enable the use of lower water temperatures. While this is great at conserving energy, it also preserves garments by minimizing the stresses on fabric fibers.

  • Low-energy air compressor. Our low-energy compressor includes monitoring and is used to make the clean dry air necessary for running our dry-cleaning equipment.

  • Upgraded steam traps. We use top-of-the-line steam traps to conserve the use of steam and cut down on the risks of steam leaks common with lower-quality steam traps.

  • Route planning. We use computers to design the most efficient pickup and delivery routes, saving both fuel costs and our drivers' time.

  • Hanger recycling program. For years, we have encouraged our customers to return their hangers and poly plastic bags for reuse and recycling. In fact, we typically recycle roughly half of our hangers every year, cutting costs and helping the environment.

  • Efficiency in the workspace. In 2020, Oak Hill Dry Cleaners invested in efficient space designing, the result of which will be an energy efficient work space that provides optimal air flow, grouping of warmer machinery in an area cooled by evaporative tech, and more functional production processes. We still have not installed air conditioning and our plan is to keep it that way!

Oak Hill Dry Cleaners knows that green business is the best business, and that it is our responsibility to protect the planet while protecting our bottom line. We take our commitment to the environment seriously, and strive every day to leave a healthier environment for generations to come.
